Here's a secret: most buyers barely read descriptions. They scan. Your job isn't to write a novel -- it's to answer every possible question before they ask it.
📝 The Description Template
Use this structure for every listing:
WHAT YOU'RE GETTING:
• [Exact product name, variant, size]
• [What's included: box, accessories, etc.]
CONDITION:
• [Honest, specific condition notes]
• [Any defects -- be upfront, buyers respect honesty]
KEY DETAILS:
• Brand: [X]
• Size/Volume: [X]
• Colour: [X]
• RRP: [X] (if impressive vs your price)
POSTAGE:
• [Service, estimated delivery, packaging method]
RETURNS:
• [Your policy -- 30 days recommended]
💡 Description Power Moves
- Lead with what's included -- buyers want to know exactly what arrives
- Mention the RRP -- "RRP £85, yours for £34.99" creates instant value
- Be specific about condition -- "light wear on bottom" is better than "good condition"
- Use bullet points -- walls of text get skipped
- Add keywords naturally -- mention the full product name, alternative names, compatible models
- No HTML templates -- eBay's mobile app strips most styling. Plain text with line breaks wins.
🚫 What NOT to Write
- "Please check my other items!" -- desperate and irrelevant
- "No returns accepted" -- eBay forces returns for INAD anyway, this just scares buyers
- "Smoke-free home" -- unless it's clothing/fabric, nobody cares
- "Bought for £X, selling for £Y" -- your cost is irrelevant to the buyer
